Sitters and Preschool

Right after we came home from the beach, Tyler was moved up to the 4/5 year old class.  What a bittersweet feeling!  We’ve loved his teacher, who was both his 2 year old and 3 year old class teacher.  But Tyler was one of the oldest in his class, and it was time for him to move up.  He is now in a class with mostly 5 year olds who are about to go to kindergarten in the fall.  The rest of his friends will move up when they leave.  So, Tyler has had to make new friends for the time being.  He also is adapting to two new teachers.  Of course, we compare everyone to Ms Cathy, but we are still happy with his new teachers.  We know that this is Tyler’s last class until kindergarten (it’s weird to say that!), so we want to make sure he has good teachers.  Tyler is writing his name, using the class computer, and learning all kinds of new things!

Over my maternity leave, I was really excited to find out that Tyler’s preschool was opening an infant and toddler class, but we were going to wait until September to enroll him after our raises kicked in.  We actually decided not to enroll him and continue using our neighbor and friend, who has done a fabulous job with Ryan.  Not only has she exceeded my expectations, but she is $300 cheaper a month than daycare!  I’ve only ever been used to daycare settings, so I was scared it would be an adjustment, but I’ve actually been surprised at how many perks there really are!   Josh is watching Ryan the days he is off work, which is exactly what he did with Tyler during his first two and a half years.  I call him a part time stay-at-home-daddy :)
