Recovery, Friends, and Fat

Recovery

Tyler is recovering just fine!  The first day after surgery, he was a little down and in pain, but even by the end of that day we saw a huge change!  He was drawing, painting, playing legos, and going outside to check the mail.  He even snoozed for a bit while watching a movie. Winking smile

The first couple of nights sleeping were pretty rough, as he woke up every 2 1/2 hours complaining of discomfort.  Thursday night he actually only woke up once, but last night it was more than that.  His baby brother has also decided to wake up at 5 am the past couple of weeks and have a hard time going back to sleep.  It’s been fun to say the least!

He also hates taking the pain medicine for some reason.  Even the Tylenol.  We have to put it in drinks to get him to take it without him knowing.  Honestly, he had a bigger meltdown about that then when he broke his arm! We finally said, “if you don’t take the medicine, then we will not respond to your complaining.”  Tough love, but come on!  He’s just like his daddy! Winking smile

Friday morning we had an appointment bright and early at 8am for the doctor to look at Tyler’s arm and take more xrays.  She said it looked good but would rather take his cast off, move it to a better 90 degree angle, and then put a new cast on.  This was not terribly painful for Tyler, but there were surely tears.  Compared to what I saw Monday night and Tuesday, it was a piece of cake for me though!

Would you like to see his before and after xrays?  If you are squeamish, kindly skip this section.

This xray was taken at Durham Regional when he arrived.  You can uhh clearly see where he broke his bone.

This xray was taken Friday which shows where his bones are now held with the pins.

Super cool right?  Winking smile

Tyler is now sporting a new Duke blue cast and already has three signatures on it including mine.  On the way home from the appointment, he and Josh stopped by his preschool to see his teachers and friends.  He said that as soon as they pulled up, the kids came running to the window in excitement!  Tyler was concerned that his graduation gown wouldn’t fit over his cast, so Ms. Lori had to show him that it still would! He will return to school on Monday.

Our best news is that we did indeed learn that we will come back in three weeks on June 10 to possibly remove the cast!  They will do xrays, and if everything looks fine, he will then wear a removable splint until his arm is strong enough.  This sounds a little too good to be true, but I was ensured that kids heal much faster than adults.  So, we will see.  I will have my work cut out for me trying to prevent him from being too rough!  He is a boy after all! He’s really back to his old self for the most part now, playing down on the floor, trying to be too aggressive, and of course challenging us with his listening skills!

Friends

We’ve had an overflow of friends and family support.  Unfortunately, I haven’t been home to see many of them because I had to go back to work.  We’ve also had great support with my last blog post.  However, there was a technical problem with Blogger and most everyone’s comments were deleted!  This week our friends, The Wyatt’s, The Nguyen’s, the Miller’s, three sets of neighbors, and our own family members have dropped by with dinner, gifts, and sweets.

Which leads me to….

Fat

While I appreciate the support of everyone, we currently have a bag of candy, soft drinks, strawberry pie, cookie cake, ice cream, cookies, and brownies.

This is not on my WW plan.

This is a problem.

Kindly distract me from bringing these items in and then proceed to hand them to Josh where he will hide them from me.  Mucho gracias.
