A walk on the organic side

In an attempt to lose 10 lbs before the summer, I've actually resorted to cutting a few other things out of my diet other than calories. While I don't ever see myself as an extreme nutritionist, I have started to listen to my friend, Karen, who loves to tell myself and all others the dangers of Partially Hydrogenated Oils (PHOs) and High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS). When I started looking to see how much of this was in our pantry, I was pretty surprised. Our cereal bars that Tyler and I eat, the syrup for waffles, poptarts, etc all had it in there. So, I decided that if I could find an alternate that a) tastes just as good and b) didn't cost any more that I would make a change on key household items. I did find an alternative to the off brand cereal bars we were eating--Newton's Fruit Crisps. Poptarts were rare in our house anyway, and I was looking to stop buying them for sugar reasons anyway. And syrup is hardly used and when it is, I barely put any on Tyler's waffles. I also out of curiousity bought organic mac and cheese, and I have to say that while I don't care about ever eating any kind of mac and cheese, Tyler certainly didn't notice the difference. Oh, and they have a natural kind of peanut butter that I swear tastes just the same! Same price too. But last night I was really, really craving pizza and for a few reasons I didn't feel I could have it. The main reason is that it's not exactly diet food. As I was strolling Food Lion's aisle I walked past the following:

Karen had talked about it before, so I figured I'd give it a shot. The verdict? It's not exactly DiGiorno's, but it solved the craving. And, I felt awfully healthy afterwards.
