Mr. Ryan has been quite the fussy pants lately. He's up all night long screaming for his paci and/or screaming b/c he's out of his swaddle. It's been very draining on me to get up close to five times a night and then get up and go to work all day long. I'm only feeding him once, and it's around 5 am. So, it's not due to hunger.
Is it illegal to duck tape a paci? Yes?
I'm only kidding. Please don't be tempted to report me. Anyway, he's also escaping his swaddle. It was around this time that Tyler stopped being swaddled, and as a result instantly started sleeping through the night. Since Ryan is so much like his brother, I thought maybe if I stopped it would work.
Wrong.
He does not like it! I'm torn, though, because he not only breaks out of it and starts crying, but it is up near his face. Hello safety hazard. One night out of desperation I even pulled a twin sheet out and swaddled him in it! I mean...I don't really know what my logic was other than it was 3 am and it sounded good to me.
Didn't work by the way.
So, Saturday I had had enough. I was ready to let this child cry it out. At 12am he started to fuss. I waited and the crying got louder. I could sense Josh's eyes rolling as I refused to go in there and just put the darn paci in his mouth and re-swaddle him. Finally, I went to go check on him and it all just fell apart. I didn't do this with Tyler, so it's kind of new to me but after an hour of trying to calm him down, I just gave in. We were all tired. It really only got worse from there because he was up every hour after that. So, this means momma was up from midnight until 5 am simply b/c it was pointless to try and go back to sleep. I was so frustrated. Thanks go out to Karen who got a great email from me at 4 in the morning! :)
I started researching something to help. And, with the help of Facebook I was directed to the woombie. This could solve the swaddling issue but obviously not the paci issue. I can't really get over the fact that my child will slightly resemble a glowworm, but I'll give anything a shot.
So, stay tuned. I ordered it with express delivery.
On the other hand, if it doesn't get much better, I might be making a trip to the pediatrician's office later this week to rule out the dreaded....ear infection. No signs of it, but those babies like to sneak in our family. It could be teeth, too, although there has been no drooling involved.

This is EXACTLY what Russell was doing - breaking out of his swaddle and losing his paci - and we were up every 45 minutes. That's when we did "cry it out" via the book by Richard Ferber. It's a very specific method. Have you read it? Anyway, it worked for us in 3 or 4 days. (Those days were not fun, but then that was it!) Don't know if you'd want to try another type of CIO, but I recommend it!
Jen, I might read up on it. I definitely know of it, but I haven't read it. I never had to do this with Tyler. We just stuck it out and he eventually slept through the night at 5 months.
