So this was the day--the day I knew we needed some kind of plan. Touring Plans rated this day as a 7 out of 10, so I knew it would be crowded. There were three things I knew we needed to do that morning: 1) Get there before opening, 2) Dart to the ABC Commissionary to sign Tyler up for the Jedi Training, and 3) Dart to Toy Story Mania to get in line. So, that we did.
We got up pretty tired that morning and bypassed breakfast at the resort. We had a character breakfast at the park at 10:10am. We hopped on the bus and took about a 15 minute ride to Hollywood Studios.
Along the ride, we told the boys what they would expect there, and they were excited! The park opened at 9am, but because I'm a researching fool, I knew that they opened the gates before 9am. So, when we arrived shortly after 8:30am, we walked straight in....and darted to sign Tyler up! We stood in a decent size line, and got signed up. They have shows every hour of the day and take about 15 kids per show. So, do the math and understand we HAD to get there at opening! We got into the 11:50am show. Tyler was required to be there 30 minutes in advance to get ready for it.
After we signed up, we went over to Toy Story Mania where the line was already 40 minutes long, ha! We stood in the line, which only ended up being a 20 min wait. The good thing about the popular rides with long lines is that they have things along the way to interest the kids.
This is one of those rides that everyone talks about, so I was anxious to see what the hype was all about. I will say that it was pretty cool! It's a 3D ride where you are in the middle of an arcade game and try and shoot to get points. I rode with Tyler, and he was having a blast. Ryan was able to ride as well and sat with Josh on the opposite side of us.
When we exited, we decided to get a Fastpass for later, since I figured they would want to ride it again. Our time stamp had us coming back between 2pm-3pm. As a side note, all fastpasses were out by noon! Fastpass=reservations for rides.
Afterward, we saw Minnie Mouse again, and Ryan needed more pictures!
It was time for us to head over to our breakfast and Hollywood and Vine. Mmmm...it was buffet style and hit the spot for me!
**Sickness alert** This is the start of Josh feeling cruddy. He ordered hot tea and didn't eat much breakfast.
The boys had a great time eating whatever they wanted (they let Ryan eat off the buffet too) and meeting the characters! Tyler and Ryan ate Mickey-shaped waffles, chocolate muffins, bananas, and pancakes. I had quite a ton of food because I was hungry! I think I ate eggs, hashbrown casserole, a cinnamon roll (or maybe two, ha), and a small muffin.
In the order of the pictures below, they saw June (from Little Einsteins), Handy Manny, Jake (from Jake and the Neverland Pirates), and Ozo (from Special Agent Ozo).
All the characters made a point to come over and sign autographs and take pictures. There was also dancing and singing in the diner.
It was finally time to head over to the Jedi Training, but on the way we had a little detour. ;)
***Potty Training Alert*** Ryan decided to potty all day long at Hollywood Studios! He would tell us when he had to go!
It was Jedi time, and Ryan and I waited to get a spot while Tyler and Josh got there at the 30 minute mark. In that time, Ryan got sunscreen (because it was HOT), and lots of dum dum lollypops. :)
As Tyler and the other kids walked over to get in line right before the show, you could tell he was a little nervous.
The show was pretty awesome, even for a non-Star Wars fan like me. The kids are trained in how to use a light saber and then each kid gets to try and defeat Darth Vader. At the end, he got a certificate for participating. He had a really fun time!
A short video of him defeating Darth Vader is here: http://youtu.be/I9U8hRg5Spc
Even Ryan enjoyed watching his big brother!
After the show, Tyler and Ryan rode Star Tours. I sat out with Ryan. There really was only one ride in the park that Ryan could ride. So, I typically let Josh and Tyler ride together since I don't really have to be on rides.
It was time to meet Mater and McQueen! Ryan was so freaking excited about it. After Tyler's "I'm too old for this attitude," we got some really cute pictures! Again, Ryan kept trying to break in line!
Perhaps the kids favorite part was the Honey I Shrunk the Kids playground. However, it is a parent's nightmare because kids go crazy, and it's easy to lose them! Tyler was yelled at quite a bit in this place! ;)
This huge net thing was the highlight for the boys. They had to do it over and over again! And poor Josh was the one who had to go up there ;)
We choose to do the Lights, Motors, Action Extreme Stunt Show. It was between that and the Indiana Jones Stunt Show, but we thought the boys would be more interested in the cars. It was really cool and very entertaining--even for a non-cars girl like me ;)
Ryan was excited that McQueen stopped by!
Almost the second we walked out of the show, I looked in to see this :)
We had a little snack break, and then I told Josh and Tyler to go do the Toy Story Mania ride again since we had hit our Fastpass window. I stayed with Ryan so he could nap.
After a 45 minute nap, we woke Ryan up so that he could have fun at Disney Jr!
I knew Ryan would love, but I had no idea how much Tyler would. He was singing along the whole time! The theater was very intimate and required everyone to sit on the floor. Um...we are old! We had front row seats. It was a cute show that had segments from Mickey Mouse Playhouse, Little Einsteins, Handy Manny, and Jake and the Neverland Pirates!
At this point, it was well past lunch time, but since we had a late breakfast we did snacks and then had an early dinner. We walked around the rest of the park that we hadn't really seen yet since we didn't have any other priorities left.
Until we got to Tower of Terror. Josh bribed Tyler to get on this because he's tall enough. After a good bribe (light saber!), they walked up to the 10 min line.
And here are the champions! Josh said Tyler was holding on to the railings super tight in the elevator! In case you don't know, this ride involves getting on a scary elevator that drops floors suddenly and in the dark!
After that, Josh tried to get Tyler to get on the Rock and Rock rollercoaster, but that was a failure, and Tyler started bawling once he sat down. So, they had to leave the ride! But as we waited for that long wait, Ryan and I had a little downtime!
We headed to pizza planet (which I found to be yummy.) I got a personal pizza, side Caesar salad, and cookie for my meal credit. Ryan didn't eat much of anything, and Tyler at a small pizza. This was the point where the sickness really hit Josh. He didn't eat dinner (Ryan used his credit). So, being the caring wife I was I said we still had to see the Osbourne Lights, and then we could head home. ;)
We only really had 45 minutes to wait for the first lighting. The light show was just amazing!! It snowed on the street while the lights did their thing to music!
Here is a video that will give it a little more justice than just pictures! http://youtu.be/VgW4sfNEvc8
We dashed out of the park after this (around 6:15pm) because Josh was miserable. And that's where the trip got a little bit more interesting and unplanned! Stay tuned! I think my blogging has hit max today :)
