Tyler's Birthday Party: The Party

Despite the rain yesterday (and the storms), we had the birthday party indoors.  Out of the 19 classmates Tyler invited, only one actually RSVP'd and showed up.  Another post.  Another vent.  But Josh and I tracked some other friends down so he would have a respectable amount of kids show up.  It actually turned out perfect with five children total.

The original invitation I sent out looked like this (minus personal details):

The first thing the kids did was come up with their Superhero I.D.  Tyler decided he wanted to be Sword Man and battle against Mr. Freeze.

We played charades for the first game where the children warmed up and began to get familiar with everyone through laughing at their friends' silly interpretations of things like playing baseball, being a tree, and being a snake.

The next game was surely meant to be outdoors, but I knew the kids would love it.  The game was called Vaporize a Villain.  Balloons were hung with pictures of villains on them.  Each kid had a can of silly string, and they fought the villains!  My poor floor is still suffering the after effects of this game.  I will be finding silly string for quite a while!

Somehow Josh turned into the villain towards the end!

Of course there was a pinata, but instead of having the kids swing a bat in my living room, they pulled strings until the candy fell.

There was cake....delicious, best-I've-ever-had cake.

And then a lot of playing and being boys!

Tyler had a great time, and we were so glad because we were so nervous he would be sad that his classmates couldn't come.  The number of kids turned out to be ideal, and everyone seemed to have a blast!

Did I mention that I participated too?

Stay tuned for a post tomorrow telling what Tyler's big early birthday surprise was :)
