I can cover what we did for the 4th of July pretty quickly--a big fat nothing. We have all been sick with a nasty cold with the exception of Tyler. I spent the weekend alone with two kids and by Monday was begging for some help or at least an escape out of the house alone. Josh got sick Sunday night and spent Monday morning in bed. By that afternoon, I made it out of the house and to a mall for three hours. Pure bliss. Other than dressing my children in patriotic colors, suggesting Tyler draw a picture of a flag, and feeling obligated to cook hot dogs for dinner, it was pretty much a “non holiday” for us!
Yesterday, Ryan had his first day of daycare. He did really great! I was a little nervous of how he would handle it, but he didn’t shed a tear the entire day. And…drum roll please….he slept on a cot for two hours at nap time! I didn’t know how he would handle losing his morning nap and then take his afternoon nap on a cot instead of a crib, but he managed to prove me wrong! His teachers said that when they took a walk outside, Tyler saw Ryan out of the window and started banging on it to get Ryan’s attention. Apparently, Ryan was all grins when he saw his big brother in the window!
It was so strange to bring out the same Mickey Mouse bookbag that Tyler used when he came to that preschool at 2. It was even stranger to see it on the back of my 14 month old!
Shortly after taking this picture, he toppled over. Apparently, the book bag was a tad too heavy.
At the end of the day when I picked him up, he was all smiles! He waved and said “bye bye” to his teachers and friends, and we went to get big brother!
We are sad to say goodbye to our neighbor/friend/sitter that watched Ryan during the past year. She has been so good with him and treated him like family. She bent over backwards to help us when Tyler was in the hospital and took Ryan into her house overnight. I never had any doubts that Ryan was in good hands. If I couldn’t be there during his first year, I’m so glad he could be somewhere to get one-on-one attention!
