Music has always been a part of my life somehow, whether through dance or singing in high school. Or, just through my love of musical theatre. Though Josh won’t admit it, it was part of his childhood as well (ahem…band).
So, it’s really cute to see Tyler’s love for music come out in the past months. I will say that I’m beyond thrilled that I don’t have to hear him ask for the Mickey Mouse or nursery rhyme CDs in the car anymore. But at least I would sing Veggie Tales songs in the car. If Josh was in the car, he’d answer a big fat “NO” when Tyler would ask. He wouldn’t be caught dead listening to kid’s songs in the car, and I guess I can’t blame him!
What I do have to now be careful of is my choice of radio stations! He pays attention to everything! He can remember the tune and words of a song after hearing it one time. Believe me, when his teachers told me that he performed a Black Eyed Peas song in his class, I knew he had a memory talent!
So, for his birthday I suggested to my parents that they give him a cheap MP3 player. I say cheap because at 5 years old, you never know what damage could be done! We are not at the iPod stage quite yet. A few weeks ago we downloaded some of his favorite songs on his player, and he has loved singing and dancing around the house and in the car!
What’s on his MP3 player? Here are a few of them:
“Firework” by Katie Perry (Actually we have the Glee version on there by mistake, but you know I don’t mind!)
“You’ve Got a Friend in me” from Toy Story (need I say more?)
“You Must have been a Beautiful Baby” by Bobby Darin (This is pretty random, but I had it on my computer from using the song in Tyler’s first montage video)
“The Time of my Life” by Black Eyed Peas (So, this is one of those songs that Tyler latched on to from hearing it in the car on the radio and furthermore performed randomly for his teachers. They are still begging me to post his performance on YouTube. )
“You’re a Mean one, Mr. Grinch” (Honestly, this is another random one but it’s from the Glee Christmas CD, and he loves it. Though, I have to say I’m working on him letting me remove it until closer to Christmas!)
“Hey, Soul Sister” by Train (I wish you could hear him sing the chorus to this…pretty funny!)
There are plenty more on there, but he seems to zero in on these lately. He is kind of a good singer too!
