Dear Tooth Fairy

I am writing merely to ask a favor. For the past month and a half, my six month old has been teething. This process includes, but is not limited to, the following symptoms:
  • fussiness
  • drooling
  • clingy
  • frequent wake-ups throughout the night
While I realize that these are standard symptoms of a teething baby, as his mother, I've had all I can handle in the lack of sleep department. For the past 55 days I have been getting up 5-6 times a night consoling my infant by either putting a pacifier in his mouth or feeding him in an attempt to get him back to sleep. This starts hourly at 8:30 each evening and goes into the wee hours of the morning. In addition, my normally happy baby is irritable because he has teeth trying to protrude through his top gums, and well...it can't be comfortable. No amount of Motrin (not that I've given more than the recommended dose) is helping.

We are a working family, getting up daily to leave and work 8-12 hours a day. For months, I've been able to handle getting little to no sleep and still proceed throughout my work day. But now I'm suffering, Tooth Fairy. Many days, I sit at work with eyes glazed, staring at emails and voicemail, and continually yawning. With lack of sleep comes irritability which results in throwing items such as staplers and blow pops at my coworkers when I feel stressed.

So Tooth Fairy, while I know it's your typical routine to take teeth away from children, in this instance I would like to ask for you to bring my child a set of top teeth. Any size will do. I am willing to provide substantial compensation.

Love,
a tired but loving mother
