Josh got home from training late last Wednesday evening. I had most everything packed up but still a lot left. I took Ryan to his last day of preschool that Thursday morning and say my goodbyes to him since my mom would be picking him up and taking him back to where they live. After dropping Ryan off, Tyler and I headed into Durham to return cable equipment and headed home to finish packing. Josh arrived with the 26 ft U-haul around 10am, and the helping crew showed up to start loading up. Tyler was leaving with Grandma around 11:30 for the weekend but was a great help for the first hour of our loading!
It was H-O-T. Like super 105 degrees hot. We picked the hottest weekend of the year to move. There was a lot of water drinking taking place and of course a lot of sweating! We (and I don't mean me...but the men) finished loading up the U-haul in about two hours. However, we still had a substantial amount of stuff left to load. We called every moving truck rental company within a 45 mile radius of us and everything was sold out. So, we had to settle with making two trips on Friday. Not what we wanted to do, but it had to happen.
Six o'clock the next morning came really soon, and I crawled off the mattress exhausted. Of course I didn't sleep well that night out of anxiousness. We had a cleaning service coming at 7am, and we still had things to pack into our car. After a quick breakfast at Bojangles, we headed to the attorney's office for closing at 9 am!
Our sellers were 45 minutes late (awesome), so we signed everything we could without them and started on the paperwork with our buyers. There was about a 20 minute time frame that we were technically homeless while waiting for our sellers. Talk about nerve wracking! But in the end, we signed the papers and got the keys. We headed to our "home" to pick up the U-haul and started our trek to our new place!
By 10:30 we were at our new house and unloading in the 105 degree heat. It was horribly hot, but the men kept the pace going. During the unloading process, three different neighbors came over to introduce themselves. They all seemed very nice! After getting everything in the house and after the second U-haul loading, trip, and unloading, we were finally in the house by late afternoon. During the time that we waited for Josh and his friend to come back with the final trip, I had help to set up all the beds and arrange some of the furniture!
After everyone left, Josh and I headed out to buy a mattress. Yes, let me back up and explain this funny little detail. Josh has been begging me to buy a new one for years but I didn't want to spend the money. Well, in seeing the awful nastiness of our current one during the move, we decided to throw it out. The only condition was that we had to buy one the day we moved so we'd have something to sleep on! So, in a matter of 20 minutes we walked into a mattress store, sat down on two or three mattresses, looked at each other, and said, "ok, this one is good." I've never bought anything that expensive so fast, but we were hot and tired! Thirty minutes later, our new mattress was delivered!
We were knocked out that night fast! I'll update more specifics about the following days soon!
