New House Discoveries

Moving into a nine year old house rather than new construction is new to us.  The first night we slept there, I sat and listened to all the quirks and noises in the house.  A few of the "unique" characteristics we are working through are:

The toilet.  We've learned that unless you hold the handle down for 2-3 seconds, it will continue to run.

The water heater.  I heart baths.  Hot baths.  One complaint I had at our last house was that we always ran out of hot water or sometimes never had really hot water.  So, I was so excited to move and not have that issue.  Oh, but I still do.  The nice big bathtub is not currently in use because the water simply does not get hot enough.  Josh has turned the temperature up once, but I couldn't tell a difference.  So, this is a work in progress.  Believe me, I'm all over this issue!

The stairs.  I never realized how out of shape I was until I walked up stairs nearly thirty times a day!

The baby gate.  The previous owners left theirs for us at the top of the stairs which was nice for us.  However, Ryan figured out in the first 48 hours how to crawl underneath it.  So, the gate is now for decoration and for keeping Walker confined.  Figures.

My appearance.  Let's just say that where we moved from didn't require me to worry about walking around in pjs and no makeup.  So far, I've had to be on my game because our door is constantly open around here!  People are always outside playing or walking their dogs.

I think we all still feel like we are just on vacation.  It feels like home but then sometimes it doesn't.  Our neighbors have been incredible, bringing brownies and coming over to say hello. My commute to work has been the same as before, but I'll be interested to see what it's like after this week since many people have been on vacation.

We are adjusting great, and we have done and will do many upgrades such as appliances, granite, backsplash, and furniture.  Once everything is settled, I'll post pictures!
