I remembered a few days ago that I haven't really posted an update since before I left for the beach. If you remember, I grew several new grey hairs that week because Tyler was beyond horrible at school! Since we returned from the beach, he has been a lot better at school. He's not always taking naps, but he's being fairly quiet during that long 2 hour time. That's impressive for a 3 year old boy! He is doing better with listening and following directions. Last week, his apple stayed on the tree every day! Of course there are off days, but Josh and I hope that we've figured out how to handle the bad days better.
Either before we left for the beach or after we got back (I can't remember), his director suggested speech therapy. I have been contemplated speech services for Tyler for a year now, but I always just "waited to see." I was given a number for the Granville Health Dept to contact a coordinator. I thought I understood that if Tyler qualified for services and used the county/school system, it was free. I guess I misunderstood. Or maybe I'm just confused. I had my meeting with the coordinator from the county and she said we had two options: 1) she could check my insurance to see which therapists are covered or 2) he could be evaluated by the local elementary school and if he qualified, he'd go to a preschool there. I was so confused. I don't think he is "at risk" to go to a special school nor do I want to take him out of his school. However, my insurance through Duke only covers Duke speech therapists. And, they do not travel to the preschool. Working full time, I can't transport him there and back daily in addition to paying a co-pay each time. And if I find a therapist that's not covered by my insurance, I will have to pay out of pocket. I have several insurance plans I can take, and some might cover more therpists, but I can't make insurance changes until the first of the year. I have a lot of research and phone calls to make. It seems so complicated to me.

That sounds confusing!! When Brennan started speech therapy he was 3 1/2 and already in a preschool. I took him to our local elementary school once a week for an hour and he met with the speech teacher there...and it was free! Hope you get that figured out! I looked into private therapy for over the summer break and it was expensive and our insurance wouldn't cover it unless it was a serious medical condition. Good luck!
