1st Grade Homework!

It's amazing how much difference there has been between the homework in kindergarten versus first grade!  I'm not sure if it's a school/teacher thing or a grade level thing.  Anyway, Tyler has a fair amount of homework (at least for his attention span) each night.  He must read a book nightly and write a response to a prompt.  He has math worksheets, and he must complete writing and spelling homework.  He has a clear knack for math, which is great since I never did!  This week, I noticed he was actually doing basic word problems and negative sum equations!! It's been tough to get homework done on nights where he has extracurricular activities (which is three nights a week).  But we get it done.  And of course getting out of school later than all of his friends on the street presents a problem when he wants to play with them outside.  He has done great on his weekly spelling tests and even manages to spell his bonus words correctly!  We make flash cards weekly for him to practice his words.  We are proud of him, and we hope that he continues to do this well in school!

On a side note, his speech IEP has been renewed, and he will continue speech once a week for probably several more years.
