First Day of Kindergarten!

Today was Tyler’s first day of kindergarten!  Since his open house was from 8am-9am, I decided to drop Ryan off at preschool early so that we could focus on Tyler.  So, Ryan and I slipped out the door bright and early at 6:45 am while Josh and Tyler were still snoozing in the bed.  In fact, when I called on my way home at 7:15 am, I woke Josh up who had to wake Tyler up!

Tyler requested chocolate chip waffles for breakfast, and while I was driving home Josh made Tyler’s lunch which was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich with crackers.  As a side note, I had planned for him to have the sandwich, grapes, and crackers.  Somehow the grapes didn’t make it into the lunchbox!

I got a few pictures outside before we got in the car to go to school! Daddy was in chair of the hair.  Winking smile

The Drop-off

When we arrived at school, we walked through the hallways of the brand new school.  That was really the only time I got emotional.  The night before at dinner, Tyler asked if we would walk in with him because he might be a little nervous.  My eyes started to water a little bit, but it quickly stopped once we found his room.

Tyler walked right in and found his cubby and nametag.  He was so excited to find his name!  We met his teacher, Ms. Holmes, who with 25 years of kindergarten teaching experience, had a TON of energy and enthusiasm!  She loved Tyler’s red hair!

Tyler made himself right at home and starting playing with a few boys nearby.  And of course, before we left Josh and I took pictures with our little kindergartener!

The pick-up

At 3:00 pm, Josh and I sat in the car lane to pick up Tyler.  We were both anxious to hear how his day went!  We finally saw the kids being led out of the building from a distance.  We were pretty far back in the line.  Finally, we approached the front where a teacher saw the sign in our dashboard that read Tyler’s name and teacher, and she used her walkie talkie to signal that we were here to get Tyler.  They definitely have the system down!  Tyler was walked over by his teacher to our car.  Being the humorous teacher that she seems to be, the first thing out of our her mouth was “Tyler had a horrible day!”  Of course, she was being sarcastic!

I couldn’t wait to hear about Tyler’s day, so we asked a lot of questions.  He told us that he liked his teacher and that he enjoyed eating in the cafeteria!  He explained the rules that the teacher taught them.  He also said that they made green turtles (which is their mascot).  They got to go outside and play with balls, jump rope, and chalk.  I captured a lot on video when we got home!

We are so proud of Tyler! I think he is going to have a great year! He will be home tomorrow with us, and then all of the kindergarteners start on Wednesday!
